Foundation of battle command is the common operating picture, and the foundation of the COP is GEOINT. In recent years the contemporary operational environment has increasingly included multinational operations. The results of this blog will help planners assess the operational effectiveness of GEOINT support for multinational operations. GEOINT stewardship refers to the practice and responsibility of assuring decision makers that GEOINT resources are properly utilized and developed.
How do we make interoperable GEOINT planners? Well, first there GEOINT planners must be based in technical areas of high quality discourse and training. That GEOINT consists of over 20 technical specialties, and that a GEOINT planner must have thorough knowledge of several of these specialties. A GEOINT planner must have a thorough comprehension of international and national standards, collection sources, and processes. They must also be able to balance the operational requirements with multinational planning considerations. I believe this is where GEOINT stewardship as a construct provides oversight.
